"Less, But Better." — Dieter Rams
The Brief
‘Dadu’s a premium mithai brand with a chain of outlets and restaurants in the South was keen to onboard a retail design agency for their upcoming stores at GMR Hyderabad airport terminals. They were impressed by our eye for detail and product integration with space which their F&B architectural firm was unable to provide.
Approach
We explored retail experiences offered by sweetshops around the world, as well as visited their existing stores, to experience the brand and it’s products first-hand.
It was important that the retail experience braided these 3 design aspects
1 - the brand legacy,
2 - the cultural heritage of the south
3 - an uber-premium and international tonality.
After more intensive research and brain-storming, the simplicity of a Kolam and Kanjeevaram were inter-woven with brand specific hues, tones and materiality to create a one-of-a-kind retail design.
This design philosophy was further extended into a display strategy that allowed high impact and easy browsing for airport travellers. The icing on the cake are the customized product highlighters, an element that is not only unique to the brand but possibly never been done before by other brands in this segment.
The Impact
The airport is yet to give their clearance for the terminal to open doors. Our client is thrilled with the design and her decision to onboard us as the retail design agency.
